The first time I met Caine West was in a bar. He noticed me looking his way and mistakenly read my scowling as checking him out. When he attempted to talk to me, I set him straight—telling him what I thought of his lying, cheating, egomaniacal ass. You see, the gorgeous jerk had wined and dined my best friend--smooth talking her into his bed, all along failing to mention that he was married. He deserved every bit of my tongue-lashing and more for what he'd done. Especially when that lazy smile graced his perfect face in response to my rant. Only it turned out, the man I'd just told off wasn't the right guy. Oops. My mistake. Embarrassed, I slunk out without an apology. I was never going to see the handsome stranger again anyway, right? That’s what I thought…until I walked into class the next morning. Well, hello Professor West, I’m your new teaching assistant. I’ll be working under you…figuratively speaking. Although the literal interpretation might not be such a bad thing—working under Professor West. This was going to be interesting… ADD TO GOODREADS

I wasn’t even sure he knew I was still in my seat. If he did, he was good at ignoring me as he packed up his laptop. “Contrary to the rumors you’ve probably heard, I don’t bite.” I jumped when he spoke. Now that the lecture hall was no longer filled with students, the acoustics of the large space bounced his deep voice all over the walls. I stood and began my walk of shame down to the front of the classroom. There was no doubt I owed the man an apology, even if he wasn’t a professor—a professor who would be my new boss for at least the next fifteen weeks. I wanted to kick myself in the ass for not apologizing last night before I left the bar. Now it would seem like I was only doing it because of the situation I was in. Which was true, don’t get me wrong, but I didn’t want it to seem that way. I took a deep breath. “I’m so sorry about last night.” His face was unreadable. “I figured you might be, right about now.” “I obviously thought you were someone else.” “So I assumed. You thought I was the asshole. The one with the big dick, was it?” I shut my eyes. For the last ninety minutes, I’d replayed the entire exchange from last night over and over in my head. I thought I’d remembered everything I said, but apparently I hadn’t. When I reopened my eyes, Professor West was still watching me. His stare was pretty damn intense. I started to babble. “My friend Ava went out with this guy Owen for a month or so. He was full of shit from day one, but she didn’t see it. Actually walked up to her when she was leaving work one night and said, ‘Do you mind if I walk you home? My mother always told me to follow my dreams.’ She fell for it, the entire act, from the first day. Then one Saturday, he was supposedly out of town on business, and she was across town running errands for her mother. She took a shortcut through Madison Square Park on her way back from the grocery store and ran into him. He was with his wife and kids.” “And you thought I was him, apparently?” I nodded. “She came in during my shift and started drinking Long Island iced teas. When Owen walked in, she pointed to where he was standing and said he was the one in the blue shirt.” “And we were both wearing blue shirts, I take it?” I couldn’t help but smile, thinking of Ava last night. “Actually, no. Ava’s not much of a drinker. Turned out she was more sloshed than I thought. Owen’s shirt was brown—not even black that could be mistaken as navy or something.” I saw Professor West’s lip twitch. “Anyway, I’m really sorry. I barely gave you a chance to speak, and then when I realized what had happened, I was so mortified I didn’t even stop to apologize.” “I accept your apology for last night. Even though you shouldn’t be approaching a man in the hallway to tell him off alone, your intentions were admirable.” I should have shut up and been grateful he’d accepted my apology. Should have. “Why can’t I approach a man in the hallway?” He leveled me with a stare. “Because you’re five foot nothing in a loud bar, and no one would have heard you if I’d dragged you into the men’s room and locked the door.” I folded my arms over my chest. “I can take care of myself.” “I didn’t say you couldn’t. I said you shouldn’t put yourself in those situations.” “But you insinuated that I couldn’t by making that statement.” He zipped his leather bag closed. “Ms. Martin, I just accepted your apology for calling me an asshole last night. Would you like me to retract that acceptance?” God, I really was an idiot. Being around this man seemed to turn me into a psychopath. “No. I’m sorry. I acted like a jerk, and I’d like to start over, if that’s possible.” He nodded. “Everything prior to this morning is forgotten.” “Thank you.” “But this morning is not. I won’t accept lateness. Don’t let it happen again.” I swallowed. “It won’t.” He lifted his worn, brown leather laptop bag over one shoulder. “Meet me here at five tomorrow. We’ll go over the syllabus and the classes you’ll teach, as well as my grading rubric.” That was smack in the middle of my shift, but I’d figure something out. “Okay.” “Are you done for the day?” “I am. I actually have to get to work. I’m covering Ava’s shift because she isn’t feeling too well after last night. We both work at O’Leary’s.” “You waitress there?” “Waitress, bartend, occasionally tell off patrons.” That earned me a full smile from Professor West. God, he should do that more often. No, forget that. He definitely shouldn’t. “I’ll walk out with you.” We walked through the halls together and out to the parking lot. When we arrived at my car, I stopped. “This is me. So…five o’clock tomorrow?” Professor West looked at my beat-up old Subaru. “You’re parked in a spot reserved for the Provost. You got a parking ticket.” He squinted. “Actually, it looks like you have two parking tickets. Was your inspection expired or something?” Crap. “Umm…no. I keep an extra ticket in the glove compartment and stick it on my windshield when I’m forced to park illegally.” His brows shot up. “Inventive.” “Obviously it doesn’t always work.” “Obviously.” “They need more parking. When you’re late, it’s impossible to find a spot.” He studied me. “Lateness is a frequent occurrence for you, I take it?” “Unfortunately, it is.” “Then I should clarify something I said earlier.” “Oh, no, that’s not necessary. I won’t be late for your class.” He took a step closer and leaned in. “I’m glad to hear that, Ms. Martin. But that’s not what needs clarification.” I swallowed. God, he smells good.
“Earlier I told you I didn’t bite students.” He smiled, and I felt the wickedness from it shoot down to some interesting places. “I don’t. But I make no promises about not biting feisty TAs.”

❤Double Cover Reveal Taming Mr. Flirt & Scoring Mr. Romeo for A.M. Madden & Joanne Schwehm❤7/12/2017 Two amazing new standalones are coming soon from A.M. Madden & Joanne Schwehm!Taming Mr. Flirt & Scoring Mr. Romeo by A.M. Madden & Joanne Schwehm Genre: Contemporary Romance Taming Mr. Flirt Cover Designer: Sommer Stein, Perfect Pear Creative Covers Cover Model: Dima Gornovskyi Scoring Mr. Romeo Cover Designer: Sommer Stein, Perfect Pear Creative Covers Cover Model: Steven Brewis Taming Mr. FlirtHere’s a tip: never say never. It all started in a barn, rolling around in the hay with a hot brunette. When I hooked up at my best friend’s wedding with the bride’s best friend, I had hay in places it should never be. And how my bowtie ended up around my dick was an entirely different story. I’ll give you a minute to consider the possibilities. That first romp set the tone, and each sexual encounter with her that followed became more intense. The fact that all my fantastic orgasms were coming at the hand of one woman baffled me. A lifetime of observation taught me that monogamy equated to boredom. Variety was the spice of life, in and out of the bedroom. I enjoyed the company of a sexy, smart, confident woman. It was my kryptonite. I was a master flirt, and my sexual skills were unrivaled. Until her. With this woman, I had met my match. Her carnal appetite a perfect match for mine, and she also taught me a few things along the way. She called me Mr. Flirt, and could bring me to my knees at every turn. Lesson learned: Sex always trumps sanity. Preorder the Paperback Today: http://amzn.to/2tK2qHuAdd to GoodReads: https://goo.gl/hVjyTL Scoring Mr. RomeoHere’s a tip: never underestimate romance. Falling in love was the furthest thing from my mind. I’m a single mother raising a strong little boy, and he is my one and only priority. The universe felt otherwise, sending me—actually, my son’s soccer ball—hurdling toward a stunningly handsome, perfect man, who said all the right things. He made it hard to ignore how much I missed romance. In the past, when I met a man, they ran as soon as they heard I was a widow with a child. Not this guy. No, he fell in love with my son, and in turn my son fell in love with him. But, it was hard to believe he felt the same about me. My job was to be the strong one—to protect our hearts from sweet dreams that never lasted. ~~~ Women told me I was a master of romance. They were right. I knew how to sweep a woman off her feet, to make her feel special, and good in all the right places. I wasn’t a saint. I’ve had my share of one-night stands. They served their purpose, giving me a steady diet of romance without the hassle of commitment. Then one day at the park, a soccer ball came careening toward my head, and my life changed in an instant. I never imagined that true love would come in the form of a five-year-old little boy. And then I got to know his mother: She was strong, independent, drop-dead gorgeous, and someone I desired - I just needed to prove it to her. She called me Mr. Romeo, and that was fine with me. Big, bug-eyed sunglasses or not, I caught another glimpse of the bruises on her face before she buried her head against my chest. “Tell me what happened, Bree. Who did this to you?” Her muffled whimper makes me regret questioning her so soon. But I have to know who did this so I can plan how to kill them. My hands curl into fists and I struggle to straighten them out and keep running them over Bree’s back. If I could carry her pain, I’d do it. No question. She flinches, and I hesitate. Where else is she hurt? An unfamiliar, out-of-control sensation threatens to blow the top of my head off as I consider the possibilities. Nothing in my professional training prepared me for this. Maybe that makes me a shitty cop. I don’t know. I’ve dealt with DV victims before. Locked up plenty of husbands who were too quick with their fists. It made me angry every single time. But nothing like this. “Honey,” I say gently, trying to keep my voice calm and professional. “Is Chad the one who hurt you?” It’ll take everything in me not to hunt Chad down and beat the living fuck out of him if he did this to my little Bree. I need to know every single detail so I can fix this for her. One more sniffle from Bree threatens to shatter me, and I wrap my arms around her tighter. Against my body, she seems fragile and tiny. What kind of “man” hurts a woman? Slowly, she unwraps her arms from around my waist before I’m ready to let her go. Shoving the sunglasses up and settling them on top of her head, she brushes a few stray tears off her cheeks. One look at the full extent of the bruising sends me back into murderous-rage territory. She must sense my fury, because she quickly tugs the sunglasses back down. “It looks worse than it feels. I’m okay, really.” I was in enough fights as a teenager to know she’s lying. Her bright blue eyes may have temporarily lost the sparkle I remember, but her courage reassures me. “Thank you for being here, Liam.” “I’m always here for you.” Sure wish I’d been there to prevent this. Our eyes lock and I nod, hoping to encourage her to tell me what happened. “Tell me the truth. Did Chad do this?” I ask again. She nods slowly and I suck in a deep breath, willing myself to stay calm. “Where is he now?” “Empire County Jail,” she whispers. “Good.” My eyes take more of her in. I haven’t seen her in at least two years. Bree isn’t a little girl anymore. She’s grown into a stunning woman. A woman who just got knocked around by her boyfriend, dickhead. “Please don’t—” “Don’t what, Bree?” “Get involved. He’s in jail and the judge denied bail. I’ll be fine. I’m okay,” she says, but I’m not sure if she’s trying convince herself or convince me. Okay my ass. Unwanted memories of her high school graduation flood my brain. Sweet little Bree had curled herself around my body, stared up into my face, and informed me she wasn’t a kid any more before asking me to be her first. Like an idiot, I’d given in and kissed her. Wanted to do a hell of a lot more. Vince catching his best friend making out with his sister behind their house had not gone over well. In the academy, I’d been tasered, tear-gassed, and pepper-sprayed, but pushing Bree away to save my friendship with her brother remains the hardest thing I’ve ever done. Because I really, really wanted to be her first. How would things have turned out if I’d followed my instincts? Told my best friend to fuck off, mind his own business. Explained that I was crazy about his sister and he better suck it up? But she was barely out of high school. About to leave for college when I had no plans to leave our small town. She was off limits in so many ways. Now, she’s home to recover from something horrible. Not to be manhandled. No matter how much I want to keep my arms around her, I have to let her go. It’s the right thing to do. She’s not only Vince’s little sister, she’s my friend. And I want—no, I need—to do everything possible to help her through this. Coming on to her is not helpful. It’s not what a good friend would do. “I don’t have a key anymore, so I guess that’s why Vince called you?” I’m struggling here. Unsure of which role to slip into. Detached cop consoling a victim? Friend? More-than-friend? Definitely not the last one.About Autumn Jones Lake:Autumn believes true love stories never end.
