Respect - An Infidelity Stand-alone Novel “The making of a man” Standing at what I believe is the precipice of my life, I, Oren Demetri, was too young to understand that it wasn’t and too old to imagine that it couldn’t be. The already hefty accumulation of my successes and failures, bravery and fears, and rewards and suffering, had brought me to this point. It was hard to contemplate the things I’d done, and yet, in reality I’d only begun to learn the possibilities. I suppose that’s how it was for me at twenty-nine years of age on the brink of all I’d ever wanted without fully realizing the price I would pay. Yet in that moment, I knew there would be no cost too great or sacrifice I wouldn’t make. I had no idea how far-reaching that moment of self-discovery would be; because as the congregation’s murmurs quieted, bleeding into silence and allowing the thump of my heart to be the only sound I heard, I was a man filled with love and adoration, emotions in stark contrast to those I needed in the world I’d built or the one I was about to enter. Angelina Costello was my dream and now my reality. I’d worked diligently to move beyond the actuality of being a dockworker’s son to becoming a self-made, successful entrepreneur, all in an effort to earn the right to call her my own. I’d overcome servitude to others, collecting their paychecks and lowly praises, to being the one who signed the paychecks and offered the accolades when they were rightfully earned. The world was my oyster and walking toward me on the arm of her uncle was my pearl. I’d found her amongst the empty shells life had offered. There was no need to pry open another possibility. Angelina was all I wanted. Yet my path was uncharted. There was more for me to earn, lose, and willingly give. The top of that list was respect. This stand-alone novel may be read without reading the Infidelity series. From New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today bestselling author Aleatha Romig comes a stand-alone novel based from her beloved Infidelity series. With classic Aleatha Romig twists, turns, deceptions, and devotions, this new epic romantic thriller will delve into a world where family takes on new meaning and even the inhabitants are suspicious of the next chapter. Have you been Aleatha'd?

DONâT JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER.
Youâll tell me you donât⦠but you already think you know what my storyâs about.
You have no idea.
Just like the people sitting in this courtroom.
She asked for it. Thatâs what they keep saying.
And no, itâs not because my skirt was too short or I was drunk at a party.
Itâs nothing like that. Itâs because of what I like and how I like it.
Theyâre judging me as I sit in the front row, my eyes drawn to the man on trial.
If Iâd known it was going to end like this, I never would have gone home with him.
But heâs the type of man I just canât say no to.
I wanted to feel his lips kiss down my neck.
I dreamed of running my fingers along the rough stubble on his jaw.
I craved his hands on me, pinning me down.
I needed to whisper his name in the dark, late at night.
You still think you know what happened? You donât.
Heâs innocent and I enjoyed every second I was with him.
Let me tell you my story ⦠all about how I asked for it.
Willow Winters is so happy to be a USA Today, Wall Street Journal and #1 Contemporary Bestselling Romance Author. She likes her action hot and her bad boys hotter. She certainly doesnât hold back on either one in her writing!

Chapter One
Rory
Three Years Earlier
âAURORA? HONEY, IS THAT YOU?â
I paused outside my motherâs bedroom, frozen as I fought internally with whether or not to go in. My mom had been bedridden for the last three weeks. When I saw her the day before, she had looked even more fragile than the day before that. She was getting sicker by the dayâby the damn hourâand it hurt to see her that way.
She had only been diagnosed with gastric lymphoma two months ago, but the doctors said there was nothing they could do. It had been left too long, and it had already spread. If she was lucky, she would have six months. At least, that was what they had said four weeks ago. But that was before Sabrina Michaels hadnât been able to get out of bed. It was before she had started vomiting blood at the end of every day. It was before she had given up.
Now, hospice came in once a day, to make sure she was comfortable, and to make sure the new live-in nurse my father had hired knew what to do in case something happened.
Because it could happen any day now. There was no way to determine just how long my mother had, and it was breaking my heart.
Slowly, I opened the door to the bedroom that had been my motherâs sanctuary for years, her own little slice of heaven that only a few people in the universe were allowed to share with her. I was one of the lucky few, but that privilege didnât extend to my father. They had kept separate rooms since before I was a teenager.
My gaze went straight to the hospital bed that was only one of many new additions to the décor of the room. There was a heart monitor on a rolling cart beside the bed, along with an IV stand, pushing fluids and blood into Mom. She had a feeding tube in now because eating just wasnât possible these days.
Timidly, I approached the bed, and my mother gave me a weak smile as she lifted a thin hand.
âHow was your date last night, my love?â
My own smile was shaky, but I forced it to stay in place as I sat on the edge of the hospital bed that practically swallowed up the tiny woman. âMatt took me out to this old field, and we watched stars for a few hours.â
It wasnât a complete lie. We had gone to an old field, and he had spread out a thick blanket. Heâd held me close while shooting stars had fallen across the sky, but my eyes hadnât been on them. They had been wet and swollen as I had cried out my grief for my mother against his chest.
He hadnât said a word the entire time. Just rubbed his fingers up and down my back and let me cry it all out because he knew how much my mom meant to me. He knew how much I was going to lose when she took her last breath. Sabrina wasnât just my mom. She was my best friend, and when she passed away, it would be just my father and me.
A man who would try to control every aspect of my life. But Mom had stood in his way for years now, ensuring that I had my own life, that I could be free from him and his manipulations. Once she was gone, though, that would change. We all knew that.
âHe sounds like a good boy,â my mother murmured now, but I heard the underlying question.
âHe is a good boy,â I assured her with a slightly stronger smile this time. But this time, I was telling her a full-blown lie.
Matt Reid wasnât a boy; he was a man. His twenty-one to my seventeen could cause some serious trouble if we werenât careful. And being a part of the Angelâs Halo MC probably didnât make him a âgood boy,â not when both my father and Creswell Springsâ DA were constantly trying to arrest someone from the motorcycle club. I wasnât stupid; I knew Matt probably did illegal things when he was off on ârunsâ that took him away from me for days at a time.
The truth was, I didnât care what he was doing for the MC when he left. All I cared about was that he stayed loyal to me, that he only ever loved me, and that it was my mouth he kissed like he couldnât get enough of my taste when he got home. That was all that mattered to me. I could live with the rest.
âWe havenât had sex yet,â I assured her when she continued to just look up at me with that question in her eyes. âWe want to wait until the time is right.â
Which could have been any day in the three months since I had met him. Lord knew I would have willingly handed over my virginity to him the first time I had seen him at Hannigansâ the night Iâd gone in on a dare. But like everyone else in Creswell Springs, he had known exactly who I was. Which meant he knew just how old I was, and while some of the brothers in his club were into jailbait, he wasnât one of them.
But he was just as addicted to me as I was to him, and instead of telling me to fuck off, he had asked to see me again. He called me every day, texted me all the time, and we saw each other as much as possible without my father finding out. Because if Derrick Michaels ever figured out that his only child was dating one of the MC members, he would lose his mindâand then arrest Matt.
âTell me what else youâve been up to,â Mom urged as she shifted uncomfortably, repositioning herself until she could find a small semblance of relief.
I reached for the IV stand and picked up the little button that would automatically dispense the powerful narcotics that would ease her pain.
âNo, darling. Donât do that just yet. I lose track of time when I use those damned meds. They confuse me, and I want to focus on you right now.â
Hating that she was in pain, but wanting to give her what she asked for, I replaced the button and sat back, filling her in on everything that had happened since I had seen her the evening before. There wasnât much to tell her, so I told her more about my date with Matt.
âHe keeps talking about the future, as if he wants me to be a part of his life forever.â
Momâs green eyes, which had once been the same shade as mine, were now dimmed with the yellowing of the whites from jaundice and the pain she was in constantly. But they brightened just a little when I told her about Matt. âHe really does sound like a good boy, Aurora.â
âI love him, Mom,â I confessed. It was the first time I had said it out loud to anyone other than Matt, but it felt good to tell her.
âIt makes me feel better that you will have someone who will be here for you when Iâm gone,â she murmured weakly, leaning her head back and closing her eyes.
Tears instantly pricked my eyes, but I held them back like a levee holding back the sea. âDonât talk like that, Mom. We still have plenty of time together.â
We both knew I was only lying to myself, and when she opened her pain-filled eyes, the look in them told me that. âIt wonât be long now, my baby. I can feel myself fading a little more every hour.â
âMom, no,â I whispered brokenly.
âYes, sweetheart. But I want you to know that I love you. You were the best thing to ever happen to me. You are my greatest joy and my greatest sorrow.â Two fat tears fell from her eyes, but she didnât seem to have the strength to lift her hands and wipe them away.
Reaching for a tissue, I mopped away the tears and tightened the hold on my own. âI love you too, Mom. You are my best friend. Youâre my favorite person in the world, and I donât want to lose you.â
âYou wonât,â she whispered. âI will always be here for you. I will always take care of you and watch over you.â Her icy fingers wrapped around my wrist and tightened so hard I knew she was using the last of her energy to do it. âWhen you turn twenty-one, you wonât ever have to worry about anything. Iâve made sure of that. Just try to put up with your father until then, Aurora. After your twenty-first birthday, you can walk away from him and never look back, I promise.â
âI donât want anything but you!â I whispered as the first tear broke the barrier and spilled free. âI would give up everything if I could keep you, Mommy.â
Weak hands pulled my head down onto her chest, and my tears flooded over my lashes, soaking into her silky nightgown. âShh, my baby. It will be okay. I promise. Youâll be just fine.â

Keaton Purrs4You: Hey handsome. Wanna fuck? I’ve never ridden a dragon before. I bit back a laugh and stared at the words, astounded by her lack of effort. Seriously? Was this what amounted to dating these days? Just sign up on a website and fire off a few risqué sentences with the hope someone responds? And her username? A dig at her shifter form, most likely. Probably some type of cat—I hadn’t bothered to read her profile. Purrs4You: Well? You interested, baby? Bet I can set your loins on fire. And not in a good way, I assumed. Who the hell was this woman? Did she honestly think this sort of message would work? I shook my head, about to close down the conversation when I saw those three little dots scrawling across the screen, indicating an incoming message. Joy of joys. Except, instead of more text, a picture popped up on my screen. A picture of… Whoa. I blinked, equally surprised and amused by this turn of events. Definitely a pussy staring back at me. And not the four-legged kind. Clearly, she expected a response. I imagined her sitting at a desk somewhere, tapping these long nails against the wooden top as she waited for my answer, a predator among prey. Well, dragon trumped kitty any day of the week. And this dragon had zero interest in making her purr. I typed out a quick message. Simple and succinct. Keats: Not interested. Purrs4You: Bet I can change your mind. No one can resist petting my mouse. Her…what now? I wasn’t entirely up on modern-day slang, but I think I got the gist of that one. I exhaled and tossed my phone down onto my own desk. My phone dinged again, but I ignored it. Ever since Jasper signed me up on that stupid site, it’d been one message after another. Ding, ding, ding. Nonstop alerts filling up my phone until I wanted to break the damn thing. God, I hated dating. The entire process was maddening. The wooing, the flowers, the pretty words, the false promises… Not to mention the most difficult part: meeting someone. People often said the first obstacle was the hardest to overcome. But, seriously? What the hell did these women expect from me? Back in my day, dating seemed so simple. Find a beautiful dragon-shifter, charm her with hordes of gold and plumes of fire, then settle down, marry, and pop out a few kids. I’d done all of that, only to find myself widowed and alone within twenty years—a shockingly short timespan when dealing with shifters. Nowadays, it seemed like women wanted so much more. Not to mention my chances of finding another female dragon-shifter were slim to nil. We were a dying breed. The world had given way to the wolves and the lions—the more adaptable breeds. We dragons were caught in the past. We missed our castles and riches, and the days when we could spread our wings and take to the skies. Now we needed a bloody flying permit. Even had to register with the Federal Aviation Administration. Somewhere in my wallet, I literally had a card that read recreational pilot. I leaned back in my cushioned chair and stared at the matchmaking website in front of me. MeetYourAlpha.com—Where Happily Ever Alphas Are Only A Click Away. Catchy, I suppose. When Jasper first told me about this site, he’d claimed it catered to the paranormal community, though they did allow humans to join if they so desired. How my happily-married second-in-command had heard about this site, I hadn’t a clue. Nor did I intend to ask. Ignorance was bliss. Jasper had even gone so far as to make me a profile, seeing as he was one of the few who not only understood technology but reveled in it. The marvelous things modern technology can do, he’d said. Truthfully, I’d nearly torn a few scales off his hide when he’d first mentioned this to me. Until I’d spotted the hopeful gleam in my clan members’ eyes. For five years now, I’d been without a mate, and it seemed they were of the unanimous decision that I needed to find someone new who would care for me and my daughter. It didn’t matter to them that I’d already had my chance at true love. And lost it.

SYNOPSIS:Audrey Byrnes doesn’t mind playing the wild Irish princess for London’s elite aristocracy—as long as they buy her novels. With her father’s Dublin theater in ruins and her sister’s illness growing worse, she’s the only person who can save her family from the gutter. As much as she enjoys the occasional passing dalliance, being the primary breadwinner of her Irish family means either marrying well or not at all. Dr. Joseph Moorland knows it’s wrong to dress in disguise to hobnob with London’s high society, but he figures one night would do no harm—until he meets the charming and mysterious novelist, Audrey Byrnes. Too poor to marry, he hides his real identity until an accident reveals the truth, and what started as a mild flirtation turns to a complex game of secrets, passion, and desire. Thrown together by circumstance, Audrey and Joseph find themselves in a tense alliance as they try to crawl their way up from their humble beginnings and into the highest echelons of the ton. But when one of the most formidable political players in London sets his sights on having Audrey for himself, she has to choose between saving her family from charges of treason or losing the man she loves forever. EXCERPTHe took hold of his silk cravat and unwound it, its silver silk fibers glinting in the firelight. “I want to tie you up.” I shrank away from him, my mouth gaping open. “Tie me up? Are you mad?” His face remained stern, his jaw set in harsh relief like when he had stitched my wound. “I cannot have your hands in the way. I cannot have you trying to take control.” He fumbled in his coat pocket and took out a handkerchief. “I should probably blindfold you, too.” “Blindfold?” The words choked in my throat. “Audrey.” He pressed toward me until my knees buckled against the mattress, forcing me to sit. “Do you remember the Gathering? Do you remember how they tied up the initiate?” I nodded, my blood running icy cold even as my cheeks burned with fire. The space between my thighs swelled with heat, and I clenched them together to try to dispel the ache. I didn’t know what had come over me, revulsion and desire warring in my body as memories of the initiate bound to the platform flashed in my mind. It had awakened both of our desires, driving us to rub against each other like animals. My throat went dry at the thought of taking the initiate’s place, and I couldn’t imagine ever giving up complete control to another person like that. “I’m not sure if I want to…” “Do you know why they tied her up, Audrey?” I shook my head, but a hundred reasons races through my head. To beat her. To humiliate her. To torture her. But then I remembered the initiate’s mouth contorted with an orgasm, how slick her sex became before the bull took her, and I looked away. Joseph took hold of my chin and forced me to look up at him. “The initiate comes to the ceremony willingly,” he said in a thick voice. “They tie her up so she can submit completely to the pleasure…and the pain.” “But I don’t want the pain.” Did I? My thoughts returned to the flogger bouncing off the initiate’s skin, and my body yearned for that sensation. I wanted it to be Joseph. Joseph to dominate me. Joseph to punish me. But for what? I had no idea. I only knew I needed it. He made a soothing sound in the back of his throat. “No pain tonight, Audrey. Not unless you want it.” I swallowed the lump rising in my throat. “Tonight,” he continued, “I want to teach you how to pleasure a woman, and for that, I require your full concentration.” His eyes bore into me, and he raised the cravat and the handkerchief up to me as if in offering. My nipples swelled beneath my nightdress, and I threw my shoulders back as I let out a long exhale. “Well, I suppose you are the expert,” I said, scooching back on the mattress, flinging my wrapper to the side. “So how does this work, anyway? You tie me up, and—” He pressed a finger to my lips. “Shh...let me take care of everything. I want you to concentrate. Pay attention to what you feel. Can you do that?” “I…suppose.” My voice faltered as he grabbed hold of my wrists and began winding the cravat around them. “Where did you learn to do this?” “Are you always this chatty in bed?” He pulled the silk fabric tight, and I let out a small gasp. I frowned and stared at him from beneath my hooded lids. He smiled and laughed beneath his breath. “Audrey, if you hang around Lord Weston long enough, you learn a great many things.” Pulling the cravat tight, he wound it around one of the bed posts, loose enough so I could lie straight. But it wasn’t enough to stop him from taking over my body and doing whatever he wanted with it. A flutter of panic rose in my belly, and I began to tremble. His lips found mine, and he smothered me, pulling my mouth to his and letting his tongue dart inside. I melted beneath him, my hips jerking with each swipe of his tongue across my teeth. The anxiousness faded away, and all that remained was a soft hum in my core. He broke off the kiss and raised the handkerchief to my face. “I’m going to blindfold you now,” he said. “But if you become frightened or want to stop, you need to say a word. A special word.” I raised an eyebrow. “Like what?” “Anything you like,” he replied. “But it cannot be ‘no.’” “Why not?” Joseph sighed. “What?” I pressed. “I’m new at this. You just tied me up, so the least you can do is answer my questions.” “It cannot be no because sometimes saying ‘no’ is a part of the game.” I laughed, tugging on my bonds and shaking my head. “Believe me, if I say no, Joseph, I’m going to mean it.” “Just give me a word.” “Roger.” “Roger?” He shook his head. “Forgive me, but don’t you think it would be bad form to call out another man’s name in bed?” I shrugged. “It was my dog’s name.” He let out a long exhale. “Very well.” “Do you have a word?” He paused and looked up at the ceiling, a thoughtful expression on his face. “I suppose I don’t. But I doubt I shall need one.” “You might.” “I don’t think so.” “I want a word.” “You are in no place to make demands.” “A word.” “Hippocrates.” I giggled. “Do no harm?” He bowed his head and smiled. “It was the first thing I could think of.” Leaning closer, he pressed a soft kiss on my cheek. A tingling sensation flooded my body, and I raised my gaze to meet his. A lock of dark hair fell in his eyes, and my hands strained with the desire to brush it back behind his ear. “Do you believe in that as a doctor?” I asked. “Do no harm?” “I try my best.” He looked down, his face falling. “I fail sometimes.” “Like in the Gathering when you beat up that satyr?” His head snapped up. “That was different.” I frowned. “How so?” “That man had pushed you. Hurt you.” He brushed his lips against the cut on my forehead, and my entire body shivered. “He deserved it, and I would do it again.” My heart swelled. I may have been tied up, exposed and vulnerable, and yet, I had never felt safer in my whole life. Dr. Moorland, the healer, the protector. Whatever he was about to do to my body, I embraced it completely. “Are you ready for the blindfold?” he asked. I nodded. His silk handkerchief pressed against my eyelids and darkness filled my sight. I nestled into the pillows, and Joseph’s hands passed down across my neck and between my breasts. With my vision gone, all I could feel were the smooth pads of his fingertips as they lingered on the lace of my nightshirt. My heart raced, my breathing too loud in my ears. He pulled on the drawstring and loosened the top, and a cool draft brushed against my nipples. They hardened, and my cheeks burned beneath the blindfold from being so exposed. “The key to pleasuring any woman, really, is to excite her whole body.” “The whole body?” “Do I need to gag you, too, Audrey?” I suppressed a smirk. “I didn’t realize I was in a lecture hall.” “My lesson. My rules.” “Fair enough.” The mattress shifted, and I breathed in the familiar smell of clove and cardamom. His lips brushed against my ear, and a shudder ran straight to my sex. “You might want to start with kissing the tendons along her neck.” His full lips brushed against my skin, and my breath hitched. I couldn’t see his hands, but my body tensed with anticipation, bracing for his next move. “Then,” he continued. “You might want to run your tongue ever so slightly along her earlobe.” He did the same. The lightest touch, warm and enticing. My back arched, the silk straining against my arms, the need to take control filling my limbs. “Relax, Audrey,” he whispered in my ear. “Give yourself to me.” I sank into the dark, and his hand pressed against my breast, pushing me down into the mattress before releasing me. The movement hypnotized me, my body rising and falling with his palm. He rubbed his thumb against my nipple, and a low moan escaped my lips. “Yes,” Joseph said in response. “Stimulation with a light touch is the key before moving on.” He planted a kiss on the tip of my nipple, and I let out gasp. With the blindfold on, everything felt amplified, intense. Joseph let out a low laugh, husky and dangerous. His lips clamped over my breast, and he twirled his tongue against my flesh. He pulled his mouth away, creating a suction that filled my body with bolts of pleasure. He rubbed my other nipple and sucked harder, my core pulsing with each touch, each slip of his tongue. “Oh, Joseph,” I whispered. “Oh…”ABOUT C.B.
